Utah Air National Guard supports Marrakech Airshow, strengthens U.S.-Morocco partnership

MARRAKECH, Morocco — Utah Air National Guard aircrew participated in the Marrakech Airshow 2026, providing U.S. aviation capabilities while engaging with the Royal Moroccan Air Force and other international partners.

“The airshow provides an opportunity for U.S. and Moroccan military personnel to exchange knowledge, strengthen relationships and demonstrate their ability to operate alongside one another,” said Utah Air National Guard Capt. Nathan Cragun, 191st Air Refueling Squadron instructor pilot.

Aircrew participation also contributes to broader U.S. efforts to increase interoperability and build aviation capacity with African partners. These military-to-military engagements support regional cooperation and reinforce the longstanding U.S.-Morocco security partnership.

Morocco and the United States have maintained a longstanding military relationship, including the Utah National Guard’s State Partnership Program with Morocco, established in 2003.

“Utah is the official U.S. state partner of Morocco, and was one of the first state partnerships with a predominantly muslim country,” explained Cragun. “In the partnership’s infancy there was an earthquake that struck Morocco. Utah was able to deliver humanitarian aid with supplies using a KC-135 to help those affected by the disaster.”

For the Air National Guard personnel participating in the airshow, the engagement provides an opportunity to strengthen that partnership through shared aviation operations and professional exchange.

“We really value the training both parties gain through U.S.-Moroccan engagements,” Cragun said. “Particularly for KC-135 pilots, we gain experience by providing opportunities for air refueling qualifications to Morocco’s F-16 corps. They receive the training they need while we gain invaluable experience with non-U.S. receivers, which helps us operate better under diverse conditions.”

The aircrew’s support during the Marrakech Airshow highlights the Utah Air National Guard’s role in advancing U.S. aviation capabilities and strengthening relationships with international partners. Through air refueling, airlift and training, these engagements help build the interoperability needed for future operations.
