Secretary Thomas Responds to Letter from the Office of the U.S. Deputy Attorney General
Press Releases
10/30/2026
Secretary Thomas received correspondence on Oct. 29 regarding 52 U.S.C. 20701
“With in-person Early Voting taking place and Election Day just days away, our focus remains where it belongs, which is on supporting the local officials who administer our elections and ensuring every eligible Connecticut voter can cast a ballot safely and with confidence.“While I hope the decision to emphasize criminal penalties was intended simply as a reminder of the law, it could have been handled differently. Our office and local election officials take their responsibilities seriously, including complying with federal and state requirements for preserving election records.
“This work is not something we do just because we receive a letter.”
